Leaving New Orleans today

It has been an adventure. I've met many wonderful people out here, both residents and volunteers. If you are thinking of coming out to New Orleans to help -- PLEASE DO! Your time and and spirits are greatly needed. 7 months after Katrina, St. Bernard still looks like it's only been a week since the storm.

I'm returning to Los Angeles today after 8 days of filming and interviewing. I plan to have this new documentary finished within a month.

I'll be posting pictures from the trip on this page very soon...

Filming again in St. Bernard!

Finally back to St. Bernard Parish. I have been filming several volunteer groups and meeting with residents. There are more businesses open now than when I left, and I have noticed more trailers parked in front of homes. Things are moving but very very slowly, and the people here need as much help as they can get since the government's response has been extremely slow. Many have wondered aloud where all the money has gone so far, since most people on the ground have not seen it.

I have been out for the past week but have had few chances to use the interent. I will be returning to Los Angeles to begin editing on April 6

St. Bernard Documentary to screen at Film Festival

"After Katrina: Rebuilding St. Bernard Parish" will be screening at the Full Frame Film Festival in North Carolina in early April. If you are in that part of the country and would like to attend, please visit their website.

The festival is having a special Katrina documentary section and sounds like it would be a great thing to watch. I'm not certain if I will be out there at the screening yet or not.

Documentary DVD available soon

I have received many requests for the documentary and very moving personal stories from many residents from the area over the last month. I just want to first say thank you for sharing your stories with me, I have read them all and am hoping to find ways to incorporate some of them into the next trip.

Regarding the DVD, we are in talks to have many copies of the DVD made. As soon as it is, I will send out an email to everyone who has emailed me. If you would like to receive this email, please send me an email with your name and reference the documentary in the subject line.

How to get involved - relief workers needed in our own country

My next trip will also be focusing on relief work efforts that are on-going in the area. The goal of a new release is to show how anyone can travel to the area and help with the effort.
